If you select a DOS command in a window and choose the Execute and Replace command of the OTHERS menu, the selected command is executed and its standard output replaces the selection. A possible use of this is to put the command DIR on a line, select it, and execute the Execute and Replace command. This will cause the directory listing to be placed in your file.
